Bailey was given a game to play early on in his DAD training called '101 things to do with a box' and involved placing an empty box on the floor and rewarding him for any interest shown in it whatsoever. The idea of the game is to create a thinking dog and lets face it, there may be situations that requires him to think outside the square, so anything that helps develop this area is a bonus. If he looks at it or touches it, anything, I click and reward him. Well, the first time I played this with him he looked at me puzzled. And I must admit I felt really silly at first! But I continued to play this game with him everyday and each time we played it I'd notice slightly different interactions with the box. Then several weeks into it he was really getting the hang of it and was bumping it, barking it, licking it, standing in it... you name it. And now whenever he plays it, he moves it from one end of the mat to the other with his nose and attempts to flip it over. Now, what he does with the box isn't probably all that amazing but the fact that he knows he must do something, and then he works out to do a different thing with it, is! So he's thinking about what to do the whole time and I reward him for it. However, sometimes I think I've created a monster having played games like this with him because when he gets into one of his mischievous moods, you can almost see his mind ticking over and thinking about what he can get up to next!
