It has been an interesting week or two of alerting from Bailey. On the weekend he woke me by pawing the side of the bed and then my arm, to alert me that Jason was high. Jason was still sleeping too so although this isn't night time as such, I'm thrilled that he's prepared to wake me in order to let me know that sometimes up. He has also alerted me late at night when I'm up and Jason is asleep and he's also jumping up on the bed in the mornings and alerting me if need be.
The other night he was crated during dinner time and started to whine and paw at the door. He never does this when he's crated so I let him out and he alerted me to a high straight away.
He has also started to alert to my daughter Claire a lot more too. Bailey has a real soft spot for her so it's not surprising. She has kept a close eye on all the training I've done with him since I begun this journey and knows and understands all aspects of the training. It's amazing how much a five year old can take in!

I commented on what keen observers dogs are in one of my latest blogs and how they can anticipate what we're going to do next by closely observing our body language.
Well, Bailey is always crated whenever I leave the house and lately he has taken to crating himself whenever I start to get myself ready to go out to pick the kids up from school or go shopping. I'm really happy that he's doing this because it shows that he's comfortable with being crated and views it as his safe retreat. It also shows that he's comfortable with our separation and trusts that I'll return.
Bailey is really going above and beyond what I'm expecting from him at the moment and he's showing steady progress.
We're approaching our one year anniversary soon and it's exciting to think about how far this one nosey dog, and the team, has come during this time. I'm looking forward to the holidays and the valuable training opportunities that it will provide having Jason at home more. Bailey is happiest when all of his team is together.
